Still feeling confident about your Oscar bets? Awards season has unofficially kicked off with the 34th annual Gotham Awards in New York. While the early bird doesn’t always get the Academy Award, the first major film awards ceremony of the season is usually of interest to dedicated Oscar predictors (or just anyone who likes watching acceptance speeches).

Critics choose which movies are nominated at the Gothams, but the winners are ultimately decided by writers, directors, actors, producers, editors, and other people directly involved in the filmmaking process. So what were voters feeling this year? A Different Man successfully challenged Challengers and the rest of its competition to come out on top in the Best Feature category. With two wins each, Sing Sing and Nickel Boys both had great nights. Not so much for Anora, which led this year’s nominations with four nods but ended up going home empty-handed.
