It started during the Wicked audition process.

The Ariana Grande of 2024–25 (weepy, wearing baby pink, holding Cynthia Erivo’s finger) is not the Grande you can imagine enforcing a strict boundary. But she’s working on that, you guys. In her February 11 Hollywood Reporter cover story, she said that during the audition for Wicked, she would share all her secrets with her competitors: Grande not only told them her audition repertoire but also invited them to her vocal coach Eric Vetro’s house, much to her mother’s chagrin.

“She was just like, ‘Wait, you did what?! You went to Eric’s house with who?’” Grande said. “And I was like, ‘Why not?’ And she was like, ‘My God, Ariana!’” She then revealed that she is working on creating boundaries. To clarify, though, it doesn’t sound as if they had asked to meet Vetro and Grande acquiesced, which would’ve been normal. No, Grande was actively inviting her competition. That’s, like, negative boundaries. Inverse boundaries—seiradnuob, even.
