Chappell Roan may be the pop-star alter ego for Kaylie Rose Amstutz, but has she considered that she might also be a superhero? Because Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl over here has an invisible force field around her. “I think people are scared of me,” Roan tells Alex Cooper on Call Her Daddy March 26 episode. “I think I made a big enough deal about not talking to me that people do not talk to me.” During her rise to prominence in 2024, Roan became known for videos on social media in which she called out “predatory behavior” from fans. “I don’t agree with the notion that I owe a mutual exchange of energy, time, or attention to people I do not know, do not trust, or who creep me out — just because they’re expressing admiration,” she said on Instagram in August.

Even other celebrities benefit from her super power. “When they’re with me, they’re like, ‘It’s a force field around us. People don’t come up to me when I’m with you,’” Roan says. “I’m just like, ‘Damn baby, you say it too!’ You say,Don’t touch me, don’t look at me, don’t talk to me, I don’t know who you are.’”

Like any classic superhero, however, Roan’s power comes with great responsibility. “I know it really hurts people,” she continues. “They feel like it’s me disrespecting them, that I owe it to them.” But also, if she’s having a fight with her girlfriend, “Don’t fucking be like, ‘Can I have a photo?’ when I’m crying!” Yes, for the nosy neighbors: “It’s serious. I’m very in love,” she tells Cooper of her six-month-long relationship. What? You thought a single girl could write “The Giver”?
