Charli XCX Is Convinced She ‘Wasn’t Even on the Grammys’ Radar’ Before ‘Brat’

Charli XCX is riding the Brat wave all the way to this year’s Grammys, where she’s nominated for seven awards — and she’s fully aware that she owes it all to the album that made her a household name.

In a W Magazine cover story published Thursday (Jan. 30), the pop star reflected on picking up nods in 2025 for album of the year and best dance/electronic album for Brat, record of the year and best music video for “360,” best pop solo performance for “Apple,” best dance pop recording for “Von Dutch” and best pop duo/group performance for the Billie Eilish remix of “Guess.” The honors come a full decade after Charli was last recognized by the Recording Academy, picking up her first two Grammy nominations in 2015 for her hit Iggy Azalea collaboration, “Fancy”; record of the year ultimately went to Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me” that year, while best pop/duo went to A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera’s “Say Something.”

“Let’s be real,” Charli told the publication. “I wasn’t even on the Grammys’ radar last year, so it’s not something I ever expected.”

Now, the “Boom Clap” singer is one of the academy’s second-most nominated artists of 2025, tying with Eilish, Kendrick Lamar and Post Malone with seven nods apiece. Only Beyoncé is up for more awards going into the Feb. 2 ceremony, scoring 11 nominations for her Cowboy Carter era.

Thanks to a stacked year of pop releases in 2024, the competition at this year’s awards is particularly contentious — Bey, Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan and more are all competing with Charli in the AOTY category alone — but the “Sympathy Is a Knife” artist says she’s just focused on having a good time at the event. “Wherever I am becomes fun anyway, so I’m sure I’ll figure it out,” she quipped to W.

“My dream scenario would be getting a plus-10 so I could bring all my best friends,” Charli added. “Realistically, I’ll probably get a plus-one. Maybe Troye [Sivan] and I can share and make it a plus-two.”
