The news of the renewal comes after sexual-assault allegations made by his former friend and web-series collaborator Jon Ebeling.

English Teacher has been renewed for a second season. The first season of the sitcom, created by and starring Brian Jordan Alvarez as the titular teacher, aired in September 2024 and was nominated for three Critics Choice Awards and four Spirit Awards, including Best New Scripted Series and Best Lead Performance in a New Scripted Series for Alvarez. “English Teacher was one of the most critically acclaimed new shows of 2024 and we are grateful to the producers, writers, cast, directors and crew for the show’s creative excellence,” FX Entertainment president Nick Grad said in a statement on February 7. “We look forward to the new season.” The upcoming season of English Teacher will premiere on a to-be-announced date in 2025, with ten episodes.
In December 2024, Alvarez was accused of sexual assault by his former collaborator and friend Jon Ebeling in a Vulture article. The two starred in Alvarez’s 2016 web series The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo together along with Ebeling’s ex-girlfriend Stephanie Koenig, who also stars in English Teacher. Alvarez denied the allegations, and a spokesperson for Alvarez told the Wrap that “Brian Jordan Alvarez’s interactions with Jon Ebeling were always entirely consensual — as numerous witnesses have attested.” After the article published, FX wrote in a statement, “We reviewed the allegations presented to us by another media outlet prior to the show’s launch. Mr. Ebeling never reached out to us with any concerns. We will have no further comment at this time.”
