Hunter Schafer ‘Shocked’ Her New Passport Lists Her Gender As Male

Euphoria star Hunter Schafer believes she’s already been affected by President Donald Trump’s new gender policies. The actress, who is trans, shared on TikTok on February 21 that she “was shocked” to see her new passport listed her gender as male. This came after Trump, on his first day in office, signed an executive order only recognizing “two sexes” that “are not changeable.” “My initial reaction to this, because our, you know, president is a lot of talk, was, I’ll believe it when I see it,” she said. “And today, I saw it on my new passport: male.”
Schafer said she had to apply for a new passport after hers was stolen in Barcelona last year. She said she put female on her application, since she had changed her gender marker as a teenager and her old passport listed her as female. But the new passport she just received listed her as male — which she speculated was because she never changed the gender on her birth certificate. “I don’t give a fuck that they put an M on my passport, it doesn’t change really anything about me or my transness,” Schafer said. “However, it does make life a little harder.” She noted that she’ll have to use the new passport to travel abroad next week. “I’m pretty sure it’s gonna come along with having to out myself to Border Patrol agents and that whole gig much more often than I would like to or is really necessary,” she said.
Schafer added she did not want to “fear-monger” or “receive consolation.” “I just feel like it’s important to share that it’s not just talk, that this is real, and it’s happening,” she continued. “And no one, no matter their circumstance, no matter how wealthy or white or pretty or whatever, is excluded. This is real.” She concluded, “I just wanna say trans people are beautiful. We are never going to stop existing. I’m never gonna stop being trans, a letter on a passport can’t change that, and fuck this administration.”
