If You’re in Line to Vote, Celebs Say Stay in Line
Beyoncé resorted to bribing fans with visuals, and Anne Hathaway is singing “Please, Please, Please.”
Beyoncé knows what the real scariest day of the year is. Five days after Halloween, the singer debuted a quasi–music video for her Cowboy Carter track “BODYGUARD” (her first visuals for the album??) that ends with a bang. The cheeky Pamela Anderson–inspired video finds her jogging in a red “Beywatch” swimsuit, sipping some SirDavis American Whisky on a motorcycle, and aiming a toy pistol at the camera, which releases a flag that reads “Vote!” The costuming? Stunning. The hairography? Flawless. The point? Hmmm … What, exactly, the song and Barb Wire nod have to do with Election Day isn’t totally clear, just as it’s a bit head-scratching to see Beyoncé end the video with a belated “Happy Beylloween” message followed by the word “vote” appearing alone on screen for about one second. But hey, if the video gets even one Beyhive member to head to their nearest poll site, that’s a win. Right?
Beyoncé, who has publicly endorsed Kamala Harris and spoke at her October 25 rally in Houston, isn’t the only star encouraging eligible voters to hit the voting booth. Celebrities from 22-year-old Billie Eilish to 98-year-old Dick Van Dyke have released videos asking their fans to vote for Kamala Harris today, and others such as Will Ferrell and Julia Roberts have even lent their likeness to the campaign itself. As Election Day started to become Election Night, some stars also began emphasizing that voters can still vote as long as they get in line before the polls closed. Anne Hathaway even sang a parody of “Please Please Please” to encourage people particularly in the swing state Pennsylvania not to lose their spots. You can watch all those visuals below, but if you’re still waiting for any from Renaissance, stay in line.
