Is Paul Mescal Playing Paul McCartney in the Beatles Biopics?
Ridley Scott let something slip at a Gladiator II screening.
I told you about Barry Kee-yoh
You know the lad who’s playing Ringo
Well here’s another casting for y’all
The Mescal is Paul
That’s right, Paul Mescal is allegedly set to play Paul McCartney in Sam Mendes’s quartet of Beatles films. At least that’s what Ridley Scott says. In a conversation with Christopher Nolan after a Gladiator II screening, Scott let it slip that his new leading man might be booked up as a lad from Liverpool.
Nolan asked if Scott’s next movie will be thriller The Dog Stars, starring Mescal. “Yes,” Scott said, before immediately backtracking. “Maybe. Paul is actually stacked up, doing the Beatles next. So I may have to let him go.”
You’ll notice Scott did not specify which Beatle Mescal was stacked up to be playing, but he has been a rumored front-runner to be McCartney for some time. When asked about the casting speculation by Entertainment Tonight, Mescal said “It would be an incredible story to be attached to. The fact that Sam Mendes is attached to direct, like truly, it would be a dream come true.”
The four Mendes films will each follow one Beatle from their perspective, with the other three weaving in and out of each other’s narratives. So, like four Rashomons, if Rashomon had an impressionist doing their best Ed Sullivan at one point in each segment. Mescal’s casting has not been confirmed by his team nor from Sony. Barry Keoghan’s casting as Ringo was announced by the All-Star man himself. Peace and love!
