Maybe Ben Affleck Should Just Read Fan Fiction

Ben Affleck is convinced that AI will not replace filmmakers. Fanfic writers? Well, they should be worried. Discussing AI at CNBC investor summit Delivering Alpha on November 13, Affleck was pretty enthusiastic about AI’s future capabilities and restrictions, specifically that AI will be able to write you personal fan fiction. “Eventually, AI will allow you to ask for your own episode of Succession,” he promised. “Where you can say, ‘I’ll pay $30, and can you make me a 45-minute episode where Kendall gets the company and runs off and has an affair with Stewy?’ And it’ll do it!” Well, that’s an oddly specific hypothetical he had to have been thinking about a lot.

But, buddy, so will the intrepid writers on Archive of Our Own, which currently has 714 works under the relationship tag “Stewy Hosseini/Kendall Roy.” Robots could never replace fanfic writers’ capacity for creativity or horniness.
