It’s-a Mario Day! Mar. 10 marks Mario Day, a celebration of the beloved, overall-wearing video game character who has been delighting gamers for more than 40 years.
And to celebrate, Nintendo has partnered with singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor for the video game holiday.
For 2025, the gaming company is hosting a “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Community Challenge Event” tournament that’s open to anyone with the game and a subscription to Nintendo Switch Online.
“I loved Mario Kart when I was little,” shares Meghan Trainor with Billboard. “My favorite track was always Rainbow Road. I wanted to live there. I’m still always trying to light up my house with rainbow LED lights. And of course, I always chose Princess Peach as my player. She’s an icon.”
And even though Mario is more than 40 years old, the plumber is resonates with children and adults, alike, especially those adults who grew up with the character. Trainor chalk that kind of staying power to NIntendo designing fresh, yet familiar, games.
“They just really hit a sweet spot,” she says. “Kind of like a good pop song. They’re easy to pick up and get into. The worlds are always so fun to look at and you just don’t want to put it down.”
