“Hervana” is back. The surviving members of Nirvana surprise-reunited for the first time since 2020 for the FireAid benefit concert. And to fill in for Kurt Cobain, they tapped some of the same women who’ve previously taken his place. Joan Jett, Kim Gordon, and St. Vincent — who all also performed with Nirvana for their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2014 — each stepped into the lineup, which featured Krist Novoselic on bass and Dave Grohl on drums, along with former touring member Pat Smear on guitar. And this time, they dug into some deep cuts. St. Vincent, who also stepped in for a 2020 benefit, kicked off by ripping through Nevermind’s “Breed.” Then, Sonic Youth’s Gordon took the stage to scowl “School,” before Jett joined to pummel through “Territorial Pissings.” And for their final guest, Nirvana brought out someone who’s even more familiar with the band. Grohl’s 18-year-old daughter, Violet, who also previously sang at that 2020 benefit, did “All Apologies.”

Notably, this was Grohl’s first performance since he revealed he had a daughter “outside” his marriage last September. That news sparked speculation about a rift in Grohl’s family, leading Violet to deactivate her social media and Dave to retain a divorce lawyer. But last month, a source told People Dave and his wife, Jordyn Blum, were “trying to move forward” in their marriage. Now, Violet’s appearance seems to show there’s no bad blood between her and her father. Rebuilding: It was the theme of the night!
