Scream 7 Is Coming for You
With David Arquette in tow.

At this point, maybe all of us will be the next Scream 7 casting announcement, because it feels like the franchise wants as many people as possible to return. But will bringing back David Arquette, Neve Campbell, and other legacy actors be enough to make audiences forget about Melissa Barrera’s firing? What about adding a bunch of new faces? Franchise creator Kevin Williamson seems optimistic. After replacing original director Christopher Landon, Williamson will be directing a Scream for the first time, after scripting the first, second, and fourth installments. “I am overcome with gratitude and excitement, and I can’t wait to take this journey with Neve and the entire Scream family,” Williamson wrote in a March 12, 2024, Instagram post. Here’s what we know so far about who’s in (and out of) that family for this film.
Who’s returning in the Scream 7 cast?
Scream 7 casting seems designed to lure fans back in. David Arquette will somehow reprise his role as Dewey Riley, despite the fact that the character was stabbed to death a couple movies ago. Arquette joins Matthew Lillard — who played one of the original Scream villains and confirmed his casting in an Instagram post where he wrote, “My mom and dad are gonna be soo mad at me!!” — and original Scream queen Neve Campbell, back after initially holding out for financial reasons. The cast also includes franchise familiars Courteney Cox, Scott Foley, Mason Gooding, and Jasmin Savoy Brown.

The movie isn’t all reprisals. Plenty of new faces will be Scream-ing, with Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, Mark Consuelos, and Ethan Embry making their franchise debut.
What about Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega?
The franchise fired its modern star Melissa Barrera over posts in support of Palestine. News broke shortly after that Scream VI lead Jenna Ortega also decided not to return. Original director Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day) a tweeted then deleted “This was not my decision to make,” on November 22, 2023, after Barrera’s firing. A month later, on December 23, Landon revealed on X that he had stepped down from the franchise, describing the experience as “a dream job that turned into a nightmare.”
When is Scream 7 coming out?
