The Newest ‘Black Jeopardy’ Contestants Have Never Heard of SNL

After doing “Celebrity Jeopardy” at SNL40, “Black Jeopardy” was the second sketch out of the gate at SNL50. Kenan Thompson and Leslie Jones reprised their roles of host Darnell Hayes and contestant Shanice, respectively. They were joined by Tracy Morgan playing contestant Darius and Eddie Murphy playing the hell out of Tracy Morgan. At SNL40, Murphy turned down playing Bill Cosby in “Celebrity Jeopardy,” but we are grateful he showed up here (as was Jones, as she broke at almost everything Murphy said as Morgan). In addition to the impression, the sketch has a very clever premise: None of the contestants know what Saturday Night Live is. On a night where SNL is going to be celebrated as America’s premiere comedy institution, it is a fun reminder that it doesn’t have such primacy for all America.
