Don’t expect the new owners of Infowars to make it any more truthful. Beloved satire website the Onion bought Alex Jones’s misinformation hub in a bankruptcy auction, the New York Times reports. The Onion and parent company Global Tetrahedron now plan to reintroduce Infowars in January as a parody of misinformation and conspiracy platforms. (And they’re really committing to this bit — Global Tetrahedron even bought the company’s diet supplement operation.) The site was for sale after Jones lost a $1.4 billion defamation suit against the families of children killed in the Sandy Hook massacre — which Jones continually spread lies about — forcing him into bankruptcy. The victims’ families reportedly supported the Onion’s bid, and nonprofit Everytown for Gun Safety will advertise on the new Infowars site.

In a video posted to X after the news, Jones claimed the U.S. trustee did not have a court order to shut down Infowars yet. “I don’t know what’s gonna happen, but I’m gonna be here till they come in and turn the lights off, I’m gonna say, ‘Where’s your court order?’” he said, adding that “they wanna silence the American people.” The Onion, meanwhile, already broke news of the purchase in a parody announcement on its website, calling Infowars “an invaluable tool for brainwashing and controlling the masses.” Well, not for long.
