Travis Kelce Looks Back on a ‘Young Taylor’ Swift Hosting ‘Saturday Night Live’ With Jason Sudeikis

Taylor Swift was only 19 when she hosted Saturday Night Live back in 2009 — about 14 years before she even met boyfriend Travis Kelce — but the Kansas City Chiefs tight end is still familiar with her episode of the show.

The topic of the pop superstar’s long-ago hosting stint came up on the latest episode of Travis’ New Heights podcast posted Friday (March 14) when guest Jason Sudeikis recalled some of his favorite sketches he worked on back when he was a writer on SNL. “A few of my personal favorites that I was involved in, like, [Will] Forte and I had a lot of fun things,” he told Travis and co-host Jason Kelce.

“We did a sketch called ‘Potato Chip,’” the comedian continued. “The very first time we did [it] was with Taylor when she hosted. But it didn’t make it.”

“Nice!” Travis replied. “A young Taylor too.”

Sudeikis went on to explain that he didn’t end up executing his “Potato Chip” idea until 2013, when the cast finally got the sketch off the ground during a Blake Lively-hosted episode. But while the original pitch didn’t make it into Swift’s episode, the “Karma” singer did participate in a number of other memorable skits when she helmed the show, including “Roomies” with Andy Samberg and Nasim Pedrad, “Penelope” with Kristen Wiig and “Scared Straight” with Sudeikis, Kenan Thompson, Bill Hader and more.

Swift also made a splash with her iconic self-written “Monologue Song,” during which she joked about her own love life and Ye’s infamous interruption of her VMAs speech earlier that year. She hasn’t been back to host SNL since, although the 14-time Grammy winner has returned numerous times to serve as musical guest over the years.

She also made an appearance during a 2023 episode to introduce musical guest Ice Spice. That same episode, Travis — who’d hosted SNL earlier that year — also made a quick cameo during a sketch poking fun at the NFL’s interest in his and Swift’s love life.
