The Hollywood Reporter first shared the news of Zendaya’s casting. She’ll be voicing Felicia, the daughter of Shrek and Fiona, and a sneak peek at her addition to the Shrek universe was also revealed — in a short, comedic clip that gives just a small taste of their family dynamic.

The original Shrek film — which introduced the now-classic story of the title character, an ogre who falls for Fiona, the princess of Far Far Away — launched in 2001 and was the first-ever Academy Award winner for best animated feature, an award category that was new to the Oscars at the time.

Shrek 2 then arrived in 2004, followed by Shrek the Third in 2007 and Shrek Forever After in 2010. Spin-offs Puss in Boots (2011) and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022) came next.

THR reports that Walt Dohrn and Conrad Vernon, both having worked on the Shrek franchise previously, are on board as co-directors for Shrek 5, with Brad Ableson. Gina Shay and Chris Meledandri are producing the new movie.

Also coming up on Zendaya’s feature film schedule are roles in Dune: Messiah, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and the fourth Spider-Man movie.
