If Tyler, The Creator Were President, He Would ‘Take Podcast Mics Away’
The rapper and producer is fed up with the rap takes in Billboard's latest cover story.
Tyler, The Creator has never been shy about voicing his opinion.
The rapper and producer recently sat down with with Billboard for The No. 1s Issue cover story, where he talked about a variety of topics with writer Rembert Browne — including podcasters. As a leader of a generation that has grown up with social media, Tyler likes to engage with fans on his accounts, but feels like sometimes people aren’t articulating why they like or dislike something for the sake of getting a take off. “Expound on that f–king thought, b–ch,” he says of all the opinions floating around the Internet.
He then took it a step further and threatened to take podcasts away if he ever became president of the United States, proclaiming, “If I was president, the first thing I would do is take podcast mics away from n—as.”
This isn’t first time the West Coast artist has expressed frustration with today’s rap media landscape, telling Nardwuar in 2023, “We’re at a point where a musician who you know for music is being interviewed on a platform about music talking in detail about music and people are like ‘Why does he keep doing that?’” Adding, “But if I was on here gossiping on so and so, talking about beef, and so on people would feed into it. No, we need to get back to talking about music. … Talk about your album, talk about your music.”
