Kali Uchis Reveals Title of 5th Studio Album, ‘Sincerely’

Monday (March 17) was full of news for Kali Uchis fans. The “Telepatía” star revealed that she has signed a new label deal with Capitol Records and that her fifth studio album, Sincerely, is on its way.

While Uchis did not give a firm release date for the the follow-up to her highest-charting album so far, last year’s Orquídeas — which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 album tally — an intriguing announcement video had fans dying for more details. In the brief clip, Uchis blows on a shelf full of candles while rocking rollers in her hair, sparking flames as if by magic, before grabbing an envelope with the album’s title on it. She flips the envelope to reveal that the LP was written and recorded by her in another magic trick in which the backside of the envelope now features her name instead of Sincerely.

With overtones of the spooky spoon bit in the horror movie Get Out, the singer stirs a cup of tea and then lets go as the spoon continues its circles without her. She uses a wax stamp to seal the envelope shut with her initials and then rises up dramatically and waves a white shawl that transforms her bed clothes into a animal print-lined black dress.

“MOMMY ALWAYS SERVING,” wrote on fan in the comments, followed by other shouts of support including: “already crying,” “the creativity NEVER misses” and OMG YES.”

“Thank you all for the well-intentioned wishes on this journey, and thank you to my team! I have boundless gratitude for my silent ascent throughout the years and am very much looking forward to what’s next,” Uchis said in a statement about the move to Capitol, where she will continue her longstanding partnership with Tom March, the label’s chairman and CEO, who has worked with her since 2018.

“Kali Uchis is not only a true artist with a unique vision and an incredible amount of talent — she’s also a culture-shifting force of nature,” added March in a statement. “Her music transcends boundaries and borders, and it’s an honor and a privilege to continue to head into this new era together.”

Uchis, 30, released her debut album, Isolation, in 2018, landing at No. 34 on the Billboard 200, followed by her second LP and first Spanish-language effort, Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios) in 2020, which featured her biggest hit to date, “Telepatía” (No. 25 on Billboard 100). The singer’s third studio album, Red Moon in Venus, was released in 2023.

In a recent interview with 10 Magazine, Uchis said the new album was inspired by a “life-altering event” she didn’t specify. “Actually, in a very mystical and beautiful way, I’ve had the honour of my albums becoming more meaningful than I even planned them to be because of the course that my life has taken,” she said. “The album is about the complexities of life and finding ways to find joy in life despite the world. Finding ways to appreciate every moment and not take life for granted. Treat every day special. It’s my most existential and honest work. It’s definitely the most beautiful body of work to me, and it’s going to be, for me, the most meaningful and impactful.”

Though the track list and additional details about the album have not yet been released, Uchis told the magazine that it will be entirely in English.
