Stop Stereotyping Timothée Chalamet
He didn’t demand to be called “Bob” on set! But if he did, that’s totally fine, okay?!

Please don’t stereotype Timothée Chalamet. Just because he’s a serious actor doesn’t mean he’s an insane person. In a December 13 THR interview with the main cast of the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, Chalamet clarified that he did not ask anyone to call him Dylan’s name on set — but director James Mangold clarified that it would be TOTALLY FINE if he did want that.
It all began went THR asked Chalamet about a rumor that people called him “Bob” on set. “I wouldn’t say no to [being addressed as ‘Bob’ on set], but I feel like — well, what’s the question?” he asked. Mangold jumped in with a preemptive defense of something Chalamet did not, in fact, do. “We’re here to make a fucking movie about a character and the shit-ton of judgment going to be leveled on that young man’s shoulders,” he said. “Any level of focus that he’s asking of himself, to me, should be honored and not called obsessive. It’s called doing your fucking job.” Great point, Mangold! Only, again, Timmy didn’t need it.
“But all that stuff about in-character Method work, that’s really not how I pushed this,” Chalamet added. “There’s stuff you pointedly avoid, like cellphone use or things that are nakedly contemporary that could throw you. But [Method] wasn’t my MO at all.” We believe you! It’s not your fault, Timmy, if other people called you Bob. In fact, it confused Elle Fanning, too. “I realized how funny it was when Elle pulled me aside and said, ‘They told me I have a rehearsal with Bob. I got so excited. I thought Bob Dylan was coming, and it’s Timmy.’” Well, maybe if Chalamet just acted like Bob Dylan all the time, Fanning wouldn’t have been so disappointed.
