Watch Linkin Park Rip Through ‘The Emptiness Machine’ at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards
The single has become the band's biggest hit in over a decade.
Capping off an enormous comeback year, Linkin Park tore through their hit single “The Emptiness Machine” at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards, which aired on Thursday (Dec. 12) night.
The band’s Mike Shinoda and new co-vocalist Emily Armstrong led a sprawling crowd through a sing-along of “The Emptiness Machine,” which Linkin Park debuted on Sept. 5 as they unveiled their surprise return. With Colin Brittain pounding away on the drums and Armstrong roaring on the chorus, the band’s newest members demonstrated their natural talents for Billboard Music Awards viewers.
“The Emptiness Machine” debuted at No. 21 on the Hot 100 upon its September release, becoming the best-selling band’s biggest hit in 15 years. From Zero, the song’s host album and Linkin Park’s eighth studio full-length, was released in November, and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. Over the course of their career, which kicked off with the mega-selling 2000 debut Hybrid Theory, Linkin Park has scored six No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200, including the 2004 Jay-Z team-up Collision Course that recently celebrated its 20th anniversary.
After playing a handful of arena shows this year, Linkin Park will kick off a proper world tour in 2025. The band entered the 2024 Billboard Music Awards as a finalist in five categories: Top Duo/Group, Top Rock Artist, Top Rock Duo/Group, Top Hard Rock Artist and Top Hard Rock Song, competing in the lattermost category with “The Emptiness Machine.”
