A rare loss for Taylor Swift.

Taylor Swift doesn’t normally lose. She won the 2024 Super Bowl and she wasn’t even playing. But, at the 2025 Grammy Awards February 2, she went home with a big old goose egg. The Tortured Poets Department, which she announced when she won the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album last year for Midnights (before going on to win Album of the Year for Midnights, too), scored six nominations. The big one, Album of the Year, went to Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter, while Best Pop Vocal Album went to Swift protégé Sabrina Carpenter. And so the student becomes the master. Other losses included Best Music Video, Song of the Year and Record of the Year to Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance to “Die with a Smile.” That last one is a duet with a different Swift protégé, Gracie Abrams. Although, this does set up an angry, angry Reputation (Taylor’s Version) nicely. Maybe those secret songs will hit harder if we can imagine they’re aimed at Beyoncé instead of Calvin Harris.
